Also called “The Dolly Parton diet,” for reasons that are shrouded in mystery, this 7-day diet really does work–in the short term, anyway. And there’s a great purity to it–especially in the summertime when it’s wonderfully refreshing served ice cold. Ingredient proportions can be varied according to your likes and dislikes.
Okay, are you ready? Here we go:
- 1 head cabbage, shredded or chopped
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 16-28 ounces canned tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green peppers
- 4 stalks celery
- 1-2 packages Lipton onion soup mix, or any dry onion soup mix (optional)
- black pepper
- any fresh herb(s) of your choice, chopped
- 6 carrots, sliced
- 1/2 pound green beans, sliced on diagonal
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (optional)
Put all vegetables in a big pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, stir in the soup mix (if desired), and boil gently for 10 minutes. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer until all the vegetables are soft. Stir in the black pepper and chopped herbs (saving some for garnish).
Eat as much of the soup as you like, as often as you like. Drink as much water as you like and non-caloric drinks including coffee, tea, and herbal teas.
Here’s what else you can eat, and when:
- DAY 1: All fruits except bananas.
- DAY 2: All vegetables, raw or cooked. This includes baked potato with a LITTLE butter.
- DAY 3: Fruits and vegetables, but no potatoes or bananas.
- DAY 4: Bananas and skim milk–eat as many as 8 bananas and drink as many as 8 glasses of skim milk.
- DAY 5: Beef, skinless chicken, and/or fish–as much as 20 ounces, total. You can (Read more ...)

A healthy lifestyle for the ages, well that sounds like a joke to most of us.
Yes, even though we might dread the thought of developing a healthy lifestyle, we all reachHealthy Life Style a point at some time in our lives that we absolutely must begin to think about our bodies.
We only get one shot at this thing called life and continuing to ignore creating a healthy lifestyle simply won’t last for the long haul. For most people it is tough to think about their health because thinking about really means that we must recognize the responsibility we have for working to get healthy. We live in a very fast paced world and frankly the personal cost can be quite high if we become unhealthy.
Maybe it is because of age or maybe it is because of all the people around me are fat.
So at what age do we really start to think about our health and realize we are responsible for caring for this vehicle in which we live? It is typically as we age that we realize that we have something to do and for most of us that means getting up off the couch and getting active.
When your diet goes down hill, the rest of you goes along with it.
We have all known a family member, co-worker or friend who has developed issues with their health. It is tough to think back to when we were young and could eat anything that we wanted and it not make a difference. Fast food three times a day, snacks in between and even a midnight fridge raid never seemed to fill us up or even really budge the scale. But try pushing a few years ahead and the story is drastically different. They say wisdom comes with age and perhaps the same rings true with our health. Getting a little older perhaps makes us a little smarter as we decide to seek that healthy life (Read more ...)

Effective exercise in the gym to lose weight
The gym offers you every facility to create the environment within your body to lose weight. To prepare the body for losing weight you need to combine all four areas of exercise into a routine
The idea of the exercise programme is to build the health of the body and NOT burn x amount of calories. Sadly the calorie in versus out approach does not work and fat loss is related to your internal health. To lose weight you need to eat the specific foods for your body chemistry and perform exercise to build your health.
Cardiovascular (aerobic) training.
This refers to running, walking, rowing, cycling etc. Such exercises cause an increase in heart and lung activity. The result is improvements in the whole cardiovascular system which expresses itself as increases in fitness, energy levels and the overall health of the body.
The key is getting the intensity right so you are getting out of breath and finding the right amount of aerobic training for what the body needs.
I have seen so many people aiming to do 40 minutes cardio per session or burn 400 calories. This is missing the point. You should aim to hit just the right amount which I would say is a maximum of twenty minutes for most average exercisers and endeavor to do this at a high intensity. This maximum time limit will prove far more effective mentally and physically when it comes to losing weight
Resistance training.
The time you have saved by doing a maximum of twenty minutes cardio can be used for resistance training. Lifting weights produces hormonal changes within the body that makes losing weight easy, manageable and a natural part of getting fitter. The resistance training builds your muscle tissue upwards and (Read more ...)
